scene 1

"Listen carefully,

the moon is shining tonight and it reflects in the sky

I will take you away from here,

and then like birds above the sea, and above the world

we will fly in the sky, me and you,

like petals on the wind".

A group of boys and girls is getting bored with a never-ending wedding banquet so they gather outside the Villa to stretch their legs while waiting for the dessert. Someone wants to kick a ball or just to lie in the sun; among all of them the most daring one of the group tosses out a proposal for his friends that gains their curiosity. "We could stage a show for the bride and groom!" That's a brilliant idea, that'll be a lot of fun! But what will be the topic of this improvised show? This is how the piece by Giannantonio Mutto together with Riccardo Pippa and Valentino Perera starts, taking inspiration from "The Metamorphoses" by Ovid and "Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare. A series of events, beginning with the selection of the cast, then the embarrassment caused by the assigned roles and the jealousy among the actors of the improvised theatre company take place in the effort of setting the stage of Pyramus and Thisbe's tragedy. Auditions, discussions, quarrels and unexpected events set up a comically patched-up amorous tragedy.

THE EXPERIENCE

Please read our Guidelines

The International Camp for Young Musicians VILLA BURI MUSICA is a music project involving young people who are learning a musical instrument or who are attending acting or singing classes. Throughout the length of the camp they will study and prepare to perform an original musical piece.

During the Camp qualified teachers will support the specific working groups according to the instruments played or will work with the choir. Then orchestra staging rehearsals will be held in order to build up the final performance. Musical and theatre experts together with Camp staff will assist and supervise the participants during the different moments of the day and the overnight stay.

It is essential that music experts follow the young participants during the preparation but the International Camp will be marked also during the 11th edition by the “New Generation”: we would like to underline that OGV renews itself through OGV and as in the past edition some “senior” former OGV musicians will be in charge of some specific tasks during the Camp. For us the personal growth of each member, while sharing an extraordinary emotional, experience is considerably important.

The aim of the project is the creation of an original opera for solo singers, choir and orchestra. Young people enrolling in the Musical Theatre will participate at choir classes, selection of solo voices and theatre lab under the guidance of directors and choirmaster.

HOW, WHERE, WHEN

The International Camp takes place from June 27 to July 8, 2018 at Villa Bernini Buri (S. Michele Extra, Verona), situated in an enchanting and quit park near river Adige, far away from urban traffic. Participants are hosted in the villa’s large rooms for all their activities. Every activity, including free and leisure time, takes place within the villa’s premises.

Participants can choose between full-board (including accommodation, breakfast, lunch and dinner) or daily stay (including lunch and dinner). We provide a balanced menu suitable for young people carrying out an intensive daily activity.

The International Camp ends with two open-air performances, on July 7 and 8, 2018.

Full-board stay

Full-board participants can choose between two lodging options: camping or accommodation in the villa’s dormitory (up to 30 beds). Separated rooms for males and females hosting 2, 6 or 10 persons are equipped with bunk beds and washbasin; shared bathrooms available. Non-resident participants will have priority for rooms in the villa’s dormitory.

As alternative there is a camping site within the villa’s park (unlimited availability). First come first served rule will be applied if there are more than 30 applications for the villa’s dormitory. Campers are expected to bring their own tent and camping equipment. Camp organizers will arrange some large tents provided by Protezione Civile (Civil Defence Unit). Two members of our staff will stay overnight in the camping site. Campers have access both to toilets and showers in the campsite and to villa’s facilities.

Age and admission requirements

The International Camp is open to young musicians and singers between 10 and 21 years old; maximum number of applicants: 105 (musicians, actors, singers). The artistic direction will evaluate the admission of younger or older applicants (not older than 25) willing to respect the aim and the rules of the project. There is no audition and all the classic and modern instruments are admitted to the Camp.

Until a number of 70 participants has been reached the application for the Camp will be admitted without restrictions and the date of dispatch of application form and of deposit transfer will be a proof of that; for a successful performance the last 35 applications will be submitted to an evaluation by the artistic direction in order to assure the necessary variety of instruments and voices. Our Facebook page will be constantly updated with the number of places available.

Due to the difficulty of the orchestra score, music beginners – after an evaluation on the first day of the Camp - might prepare and perform only a few music pieces.
