THE EXPERIENCE
The International
Stage for Young Musicians VILLA BURI MUSICA is a camp for
European teenagers to improve instrument playing or singing.
Throughout the length of the stage the young musicians and
chorists will study and prepare to perfom an original musical
piece under the guidance of qualified teachers. Concurrently
will take place a Masterclass for strings, an advanced
class for violin, viola, and cello. The musical project, now at
its 5th edition, makes the young participants, the teachers, and
members of the staff to share an exciting cultural and emotional
experience that promotes both self and mutual understanding, and
creates the necessary environment to prepare for the
complexity of a musical performance.
The theme proposed
this year challenges the participants to recognize the
importance of their own cultural roots in the respect of the
environment and its natural resources.
The young musicians
will be aware of the value of their music in the society both by
interpreting the theme proposed, and by sharing the common
values of respect towards the companion musicians coming from
different countries.
AIMS
During the twelve days of stay, the young musicians will
enjoy the opportunity of reinforcing the awareness of their European
identity by interpreting the theme proposed in the opera and by sharing
common values with the companion musicians coming from all over Europe in a
culturally stimulating and morally sound environment in the respect of the
good rules of living together.
The execution of
an original opera
(see
brochure)
will have a special educational value both for the young
musicians and the spectators.
The composition of
Giannantonio Mutto, about the environmental preservation,
is titled Curupira, the sound of Earth, inspired by
fascinating Amazonian lyrics of Márcia Theóphilo. During
the concert, pictures of Le Immagini della Fantasia:
International Exhibition of Child Illustration, will be
projected on a screen behind the youth orchestra.
We hope that this
timeless message of earth safeguard will not exhaust itself
with the end of the stage, but it will be transmitted in the
future thanks to other concerts that will be offered in Italy
and at the European locations of the partner young musician
associations.

ORGANIZATION
Accommodation
The stage takes
place from July 1st to July 12th at Villa Bernini Buri (S.Michele
Extra, Verona), in a quiet park by the Adige river, far away
from the urban traffic. The participants are hosted in the
villa’s large rooms for all their activities. Every activity,
including free and leisure time, takes place within the villa’s
boundaries. The participants can choose among full board, or
daily stay that includes lunch and dinner. Both solutions are
offered by the association “10 Febbraio”.
Full board
participants can choose to stay in the villa’s dormitory (that
can accommodate up to 35 people in rooms with 2, 6, or 10 bunk
beds) or in the camping site within the villa’s park. First come
first served rule will be applied if there are more than 35
applications. Campers are expected to bring their own tent and
camping gear.

Admission prerequisites
The program is open
to young musicians and singers between 10 and 21 years
old. The artistic direction will evaluate the admission of
musicians and singers either younger or older (not more than 25
years) willing to respect and follow the spirit and the rules of
the program. There is no audition and all the classic and modern
instruments are admitted to the program.
The Masterclass
program accepts up to 12 musicians, with 6 slots for cello and 6
for violin or viola; audition is mandatory to participate in the
Masterclass program. These 12 musicians will practice for the
main concert with all the others participants as well.
Up
Teachers and training
The participants
will work both in groups, according to their instrument, and in
ensemble activities to cope with the concert’s challenges and
harmonize the final performance. The musicians and singers will
be tutored by five musical experts (string instruments,
piano, wind instruments and percussions, guitars, and voice) and
two adults who will supervise and assist during the daily
non musical activities and overnight.
During the exercises, the young musicians study their
parts and cope with the execution challenges.
Prof. Zoltán Szábo,
first cello of the Arena di Verona’s orchestra, and Prof.
Enrico Balboni, violin teacher at Vicenza Conservatory of
Music "A.Pedrollo", will run the Masterclass program. Every
participant will receive five hours of private lessons, will
attend a group workshop, and will join the other musicians for
the preparation of the final concert. The private lesson will be
hosted at the nearby school Dorigo in via Salieri 59.

CURUPIRA, THE
SOUND OF EARTH, 2009 Concert
This is an original
work on the relationship between Man and Nature and the
importance of the environment’s preservation as a way to
preserve mankind as well. This concert will hopefully bring this
message to other performances around Italy and Europe.
The musical
composition by maestro Giannantonio Mutto is titled
“Curupira, the sound of Earth”. In the Amazon mythology
Tupi-Guarani, Curupira, is a supernatural creature who protects
the forest’s life from the human destruction, allowing to stay
in the forest only those who hunt for food. Curupira looks like
a red-hair boy, with green teeth, and backward feet to cheat
hunters. If he realizes that a human being is hunting for fun,
he imitates animals’ sounds and chases the man deep in the
forest. In the concert Curupira becomes the
powerful symbol of Nature that invites to more environment’s
respect and a wise use of Earth’s resources. The Earth’s sound
is a primordial music that has to be protected from the
cacophony of man made machines.
During the concert,
pictures of Le Immagini della Fantasia: International
Exhibition of Child Illustration, will be projected on a
screen behind the youth orchestra and choir.
